Additionally, he has always been dismissive of my concerns regarding my general health, but periodically makes predictions of horrible ailments based on paltry data. He tends to be unavailable, except for one day a week, when other doctors would go out of their way to be of assistance or, at least, be reliably available from week-to-week.
Keith Steichen was my doctor for most of my childhood. He was rude to me because I was plus sized. On one occasion he told me if I didn't lose weight I might as well "sign a do not resesitate" form because I wouldn't diet, despite the fact that I was healthy. I told him I would live a healthy lifestyle but wouldn't actively try to lose weight. On another occasion I had strep throat and a sinus infection and needed antibiotics. He literally would not give me the prescription until I commited to go to a nutritionist to lose weight. He is the reason I stopped going to the doctor at age 15 no matter how sick I was. I just did not want to be fat-bashed by him any more. In my opinion he is a bigot.
Consistently, my experience has been horrible. Steichen, routinely, treats me as though I am a criminal whenever I have questions pertaining to my prescription (a controlled substance), does not seriously make any attempt to refill my prescription on time (I often deal with symptoms of withdrawal as a result, and have lost jobs because of it), and uses my prescription as a weapon by threatening to take me off of it if I ask too many questions regarding it or if I become a nuisance when attempting to refill it.
Steichen likes to put children on controlled substances, and after decades of being on them, use the approval process as leverage for dictating his client's health choices. He further treats patients like criminals when they have any questions pertaining to the controlled substance he forced them to grow up on, and seems to take a particular pleasure in denying health concerns that a patient brings up, when it pertains to something he has casually prescribed without much consideration. Horrible.
Overall, having been his patient for many years, I couldn't recommend him as a doctor and would rate his skills as a physician between 1 or 2.
