That was not going to happen. I took Maddy to Four Paws Animal Hospital and they were so great with her! They actually got down on the floor and talked with her and petted her, and made friends with her! (They, with me, attempted to read the first vet's notes, but her handwriting was atrocious. We could make out.the name of an infection, and that's it. At least the test results were typed.) Then they kept her the rest of the day and gave her fluids and a vitamin B shot. SHE IS FINE NOW! She is her old self, no more diarrhea, and I'm helping her to gain back some weight. I'm so glad I found them before it was too late. (I'll write a separate review about them.)
Very friendly..very knowledgeable..gave me my options..no pressure.. second time I've used the clinic at Rio Bravo and both experiences were great. Will definately tell everyone about them!
Me wish I remembered the names of everyone I met so I could mention you by name but you all know who you are. Thank you all for your help and for being so amazing! Syrus will definitely be going back from now on :)
Maddy just felt so sick from the drug that she wouldn't eat anything at all! So I called the vet and left a message. She in turn left me a message saying Maddy shouldn't be taking that drug (um ... that she gave her) due to her kidney disease, and now her kidneys must be failing, and I should bring her back in, and she wouldn't give her anything for the diarrhea until she saw her AGAIN!
I took my dog in today for what I thought was an ear infection. It wasn't what I thought and I am extremely happy to say this was a great experience with Dr. Mazzolini. She was amazing, very helpful, made sure I understood what was going on and best of all she was amazing with my dog! Everybody was very helpful and extremely nice, makes
I should mention that I did have occasion to look up the drug when I accidentally took one! (I take so many pills that pill in hand just absent-mindedly went into mouth!) It was an antibiotic! And one with horrible side effects!
Then we turned to my 17-year-old dog, Maddy, who was there for diarrhea ... she had lost a total of 11 pounds from her optimal weight of 45, including 5 pounds from just the diarrhea. Obviously, above all else, we needed that to stop. The vet wanted to do bloodwork, which was fine, since Maddy was so old. She told me Maddy has kidney disease, which I already knew. (At one point, the vet tech said to her: "I don't know if you heard her say she's lost 11 pounds?" Yeah ... that's why we were there.) The vet said Maddy had no bacterial infection, and she would give her something for the diarrhea.
As it was, they said they could have me out of there by 4:10, so our appt was rushed. First, the vet tech saw us first, looked at my puppy, who was there for his booster shot and an exam (for which there actually was no time), and said, "Is he all right?" I said, "Yes, he has [it's very mild cerebullar aphasia, but I couldn't remember at the time] ... wait, I have to find it on my phone." She said, "You'd better find it!" and took my puppy to the back. I thought that was odd, but didn't realize until later that she thought I'd done something to little Auggie!
Beyond terrible experience. Took my puppy and senior dog in for first appt after moving to ABQ. My appt was at 3, and I had to be home by 4:30 for another appt. They saw me at 3:50, nearly an hour late. The receptionist told me ti was because they had three walk-in "emergencies," and there was only one vet there. The vet herself told me they actually had one emergency: a puppy was hit by a car. I would happily give up my appt so that they could save a puppy's life, but they should have called me so that I could reschedule. In fact, they didn't even mention the fact that I was waiting so long until I asked why.
Great vet for our animal companions. Nice office staff, clinicians, doctors, etc.
When she came back in with Auggie and the vet, I stumbled through "mild cerebullar aphasia" enough so that the vet could guess it. (And then she pointedly glanced at the vet tech.) She said Auggie is "definitely special needs" and could eventually die from it. Fortunately, I'd already heard from three vets (two in person and one friend of a friend) who are more knowledgeable about the condition, that it was developmental, the damage was done, and now it is static. It was due to ingesting poison, or malnutrition, or it was congenital (he was a stray), and it will NOT progress, and he has NO special needs. He just sits and walks a little funny ... which just makes him cuter.
The people here are so kind and the exotic pet doctor really knows her stuff! Also this is the cheapest vet ive been to
