I really do like this venue. I appreciate they are bringing more metal/hard rock bands, but are also bring in comedians and other types of entertainers. There are two bars inside, one upstairs and one down. For bigger shows you sometimes have to pay more to have access upstairs. Also for larger shows, they allow you to go in and out through the bar next door that is open roof. It's a pretty cool area and they offer different drinks there. They have tables and sometimes games as well. I'm pretty sure there is no food and no re-entry. Four stars inside of five because the sounds can be a bit bad in some spots upstairs and the bathrooms could use a little love.

we got to the El Rey at 6:30 and waited for half an hour outside the theater till someone came and talked to us. They told us that because we're under 21 we've been in the wrong line and have to walk around the block, annoyed since no one told us earlier we walk around the block with several other people and find out that the line, the children's line is in a sketchy alley with poor lighting, needles in the alley, several homeless people, trash everywhere. Parents are expected to leave there children unattended in this line if they are over 21. Some parents put up a fight to this and they were very hesitant about this. This is absolutely ridiculous. They need to re-evaluate their decision. I have been to many concert venues and this by far the worst venue ever.

Went to see Iron and Wine, but couldn't actually see anything. We were told that they were at capacity, but it wasn't our fault that they oversold tickets. Yes it's historic, but that doesn't make it a good venue.

We arrived by 6:30, the doors supposedly opening at 7:00. We stood in a very long line but once we got near the front of the line, they moved us all to another line that went around the corner and well down the street and we had to go all the way to the back of that line. Finally, as we approached the front of the building, they moved all the women to yet another line, once again sending us to the back of that line. By the time we got into the theater, we had been on our feet for an hour and a half. We got upstairs, having bought mezzanine tickets, and there were no more chairs or tables. The sound was awful. We couldn't see the stage and we were already frustrated and tired, so we left. Didn't get to see Halestorm and we will never come to this venue again. It was the worst experience I have ever had.

Halestorm was amazing. Wished I could of heard New Year day and Starset better but the audio overpowered the singers.
