I do a lot of work on my cars, but I know my limits. When my daughter’s PT Cruiser’s water pump started leaking at 98k miles I looked into what had to be done to fix it. I found out quickly this is one of the worst vehicles to work on for this problem. You have to remove a lot of parts and maneuver the engine in several directions in a very tight spot. It was recommended that you replace the timing pulleys and belts while you are it since you have to remove them to get to the water pump. It was well worth the extra expense to have someone else with the experience do the repair.
I took the vehicle in on Wednesday morning and had it back by Friday night. They called during the take a part phase to let me know some additional parts should be replaced including the engine mounts due to cracking. They also went through the other parts that can be replaced, but indicated they looked fine and recommended not to spend the extra money.
When I picked up the car they went over the bill, which is what I expected, and showed me all of the old parts removed from the car and pointed out why they were in need of replacement (I did not request this, but it is a great thing to do to double check the work). The car has been driven for two months now and runs without any issues.
The shop is a neighborhood type business and not spectacular looking, but I highly recommend it from my experience. Always get multiple quotes from shops and get second opinions on repairs.
I called around to several places to get estimates and found Raught to be reasonably priced. Another repair shop said they could do it, but recommended Raught because they were better at this type of tricky repair.
