The day before my visit, I googled “Diesel mechanics Albuquerque” and By the Book Diesel popped right up with stellar reviews. I gave them a call and talked with Daniel. I let him know what my situation was and I would like to get an outside opinion on this truck. Daniel told me that because of the holidays they seemed to be busier than usual, but to come on down anyway and they would work me in. They gave my ( perspective purchase ) / truck a thorough top to bottom inspection and I was very surprised at what they found.
Excellent customer service and exceptional workmanship! I've been coming here for years and I just took my truck in for 200K service and she's running almost like brand new. I attribute a lot of that mileage to the great service I get here. I really appreciate how my service needs are broken down (need now/safety, soon, eventually) before starting any work. Honesty and integrity are commonplace here.
I would like to express my outstanding experience how Daniel and his staff have been to me over many years. Daniel has serviced my cars 3 plus times and have never had to return my vehicle due to something that was not addressed when my car was under their care. This includes an engine install, usually there are some sort of issues that arise when an engine is installed with little adjustments over weeks for it to run optimally. Not with By the Book, it was one and done! My advice to you is give Daniel a try and you will no be disappointed.
I felt I could take the information that they gave me back to the dealership and use it as a fantastic bargaining chip to at least lower the price a little bit. I shared my findings with the sale rep and the information seemed to have no effect. I tried to haggle a bit on the price but Sadly the dealership would not even budge a dollar. Needless to say I didn’t get the truck, and the search continues. But I walked away with my head held high knowing that the dealership hadn’t been able to pull one over on me, thanks to some keen mechanics at By the Book. Absolutely the best money I spent was worth every penny for the insights I gained, which probably ended up saving me unknown thousands.
Using a stethoscope they pinpointed an usual sound coming from the fuel injector pump. Even brought me in the back so that I could hear with my own ears. One of the other mechanics was able to hear that noise without even using the stethoscope. He had noticed a slight ticking sound that he hadn’t noticed on the same type of vehicle before, which caused him to investigate further, finding this soon to be problem. They noticed some slight shuttering upon initial acceleration that would dissipate completely after initial forward motion. I also had noticed this feeling when driving but Chalked it up to the knobby tread on the tires. They checked on the problem and found it to be improperly installed lift kit which was causing the driveline to be out of alignment with the axel, and because of this the carrier bearing was completely shot. They also found several other things that I would’ve missed and did miss. I never felt as if they were trying to dissuade me from buying the truck but just to get the balanced facts of where it really stood, and what I was trying to purchase.
Highly recommended! Look no further. Honest, reputable repair shop with fair pricing and quality labor.
Excellent work repairing my truck. Daniel was very professional and knowledable. I would recommend them to everyone.
To give you a little background about my experience, I was interested in buying a 2012 f250 6.7 diesel 4x4 LB from a dealership that rhymes with “Lon Schalmers” Ford in Albuquerque. But I live in Arizona, about 350 miles from where this truck was being sold. After speaking with the sales rep at the dealership I decided I’m really interested in this truck but I need to give it a test drive. I get to the dealership and begin a walk around and do a test drive, and find that the truck isn’t perfect cosmetically but sounds decent to my ears and seems to drive decent. I decided before I commit to anything I better get a trust worthy second opinion. Someone that understands this better... Enter By the Book Diesel.
I don’t write a lot of reviews so my apologies for this long one. But my experience was great and I just had to. That being said, these guys at By the Book Diesel are top notch! Their attention to detail is off the charts.
We were passing through ABQ from out of state and suddenly needed a hub and bearing replacement on our F250 Superduty. Was also due for new brakes and fuel filters. Daniel and his crew worked until 8PM to ensure that we could get back on the road safely - the same day. Thank you!
I may not know a lot about Diesels but thanks to these guys at By the Book Diesel, I don’t have to. I am however a pretty good judge of character and I can tell you that the guys at By the book are honest, meticulous and will treat you right. I’m not the only one that feels this way, while I waited in the lobby for the inspection I got to see a few of the local customers come in to pick up their vehicles. All of whom seemed to be satisfied return customs. I can say this, If I did have a truck and lived in Albuquerque these would be my go to guys.
