The food was good. The service was not very good and the restaurant did not have a license to sell wine.
The service was so poor it was almost comic. The waiter was incredibly awkward even during the simple task of getting us seated. When we asked about a wine list we were told that the new management hadn't printed it yet and ended up drinking water because nothing else was offered. At the end of the meal, the waiter dropped off our bill and said nothing but "here you go." When we asked for coffee and tea at the end of the meal, my coffee came out five minutes before my date's tea so it sat and got cold while we waited for the tea. The meal was (to me) expensive at $100 and the food was definitely not impressive. Each part of the meal took a very long time to come out. We were there about a half hour when suddenly loud French and German music started playing. It played for about an hour and then the restaurant was suddenly totally quiet again (because there were only 3 tables on a Saturday night at 7pm). Eventually we were laughing about how badly everything was done.
Awesome French food! The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is homey. For a great deal, go for lunch!
I cannot recommend against this restaurant strongly enough.
I had friend visiting from Boston. I had not been to this place in three years. What an embarrassment. NO ONE was there. We were the only table all evening. The food was overpriced and, not very good. The bread was stale, little slivers of bread, the onion soup was seasoned too much, tasted old, my companion said, the trout flavorless and dry. I had bragged about Chez Axel, from the Airport. It was not a very Happy, New Mexico welcome.
My husband and I were looking forward to trying this restaurant. Wow, were we ever disappointed!! The waiter was nice, but very awkward. He told us the new management didn't have a liquor license yet, but now I see other reviews from months ago saying a different story! Both of our dinners, the Beef Bourguignon (mine) & the Scallops, were terrible! Btw, Chez Axel, mine should NOT have been full of olives - check your recipes! My husband said the predominant flavor of his was olives too - in scallops?!? Flat out awful! Needless to say, we'll never go back.
