The enrollment fee is offset by the low membership cost. Most gyms in ABQ range anywhere from $100-$200/month depending on the type of membership you apply for. For the full MMA package at Luttrell/YEE, one can expect to pay $100/month for a year membership or $130/month for a monthly membership. These prices are on the lower range for MMA programs in ABQ and are thus highly attractive.
I have been very pleased with ABQ Kickboxing and Luttrell's MMA since I started going a couple of months ago. I was born and raised in ABQ, but I currently live and train out of state. Even though I can't be a full time member they have been reasonable in working out a plan to allow me to attend their classes when I am in town. The expertise of Coach Yee is phenomenal and being able to learn from someone with his history, experience, and technique is priceless. There are also numerous classes offered for all levels from absolute beginner to pro. Whether you only want to get a cardio session in and hit some bags or if you want to test the waters of sparring with actual fighters this place has it all.
One downside of the gym is the pricey enrollment fee. Luttrell/YEE probably has the highest enrollment fee in the city, but the enrollment fee does cover the cost of a starter package that includes gloves and wraps. If you already have gloves and wraps, you get $50 of gym credit that can be applied to purchase other gear or snacks and beverages. And if you leave a review, you get a pretty good discount.
I have been going to this gym for 5 years and never once have I had any issues with being overcharged or any nonsense like that. What I have experienced is world class instruction from some of the most decorated martial artists in New Mexico. Every single person gets the attention they need whether you are a beginner or more advanced. That was the major selling point for me and I was a member at a few other gyms before and didn't receive that personal touch from the trainers. I know that I am not going to be the next UFC champion but I don't want to be forgotten about and that has yet to happen. The staff, fighters, and other members have become great friends and the new facility they relocated to is shaping up to be something awesome. Gyms are a dime a dozen in ABQ, there is a reason why I chose this one!
The gym is well equipped with workout gear (jump ropes, a stationary cycle, kickboxing bags, free-weights), a cage, and a wrestling mat. I hear the gym is looking to install a TRX system and acquire a heavy lifting station as well. So the gym is/will be well set up for developing strength and stamina.
Regarding coaches, the staff at Luttrell/YEE are highly qualified to teach their respective subjects. If I remember correctly, Coach Yee is a 6th degree black belt in Muay-Thai, and Coach Luttrell is a black belt in Gaidojutsu, the technical system taught at Jackson's MMA.
The classes at the gym are various and include jiu-jitsu (for MMA), Muay-Thai, Striking, Wrestling, Boxing, and several others. Moreover, the classes are offered several times throughout the week, which makes this gym perhaps the most accommodating to anyone with a busy schedule. This was a huge thing for me.
Overall, for the quality of instruction one can expect to receive at Luttrell/YEE, the price of membership seems to be worth it.
I attended Luttrell/YEE MMA for a two-days of trial sessions and my experience was positive and informative. There are several good gyms in Albuquerque, and the gym you decide to attend depends on your goals. I am looking to gain technical skills in MMA and build my strength and conditioning. Luttrell/YEE seems to be the only gym that can offer both of these.
I have been with Abq Kickboxing since 2008 and I could not be happier. The workouts are amazing, each class is different and challenging on its own level. Not only do I love the workouts but I love the technicality that each coach teaches. More importantly, the staff are really good people and care about their members. I have and will continue to recommend this place to anyone looking for a good, clean, well established, caring, kick-ass place to not only work out in but to learn.
Because the setting of the gym is fairly small, the classes are intimate. A student can expect to work with the best coaches and get personal feedback at each session they attend.
Trained in a few gyms around Albuquerque and have been in the game for over 15 years. I travel often to big cities and do drop-ins into other gyms as well, so I feel I can offer an honest opinion. That being said, I feel Luttrell/Yee is one of the best gyms I have been to. Quality instruction for one, their Top class instructors are not good fighters but good teachers. The facility is excellent with the new remodel and lots of new gear. My first impression was that it's a welcoming gym where ego is checked at the door and everybody (staff and students) are friendly and stoked to train. Beginners to pro, everybody will find something at Luttrell/Yee.
