Great place to start out walking as you can pick various levels. It's nice to be in the outdoors without having to get run over by a truck or a car. And they've made it very user-friendly with posted Trail signs and it's even locatable by GPS
This trailhead connects to various trails that take you throughout the foothills. I was able to hike up to the top of the U Mound and out to the aluminum yucca on the side of I-40 using this trailhead.
Great Trailhead leading up into some very technical trails (at least for trail running, which I was doing). The trails offer stunning views of the city, and great views of the surrounding mountainside. There was never a dull moment. One downside is that the parking lot closes, but there was no notice of this on the gate. When leaving, the police said that he was feeling nice and waited for us to leave, instead of closing the gate 30 minutes earlier when he was supposed to (which would have trapped our car inside). I feel like adding a sign with hours would be an easy way to eliminate any possible confusion with parking.
Great place to take a short walk or an all day hike!
The walk from Copper Trailhead gets you into the Foothills trail system. The closest hill to climb is called U-Mound. Its a few hundred feet above the desert floor and gives a good view of the city of Albuquerque. Parking in the Copper Trailhead lot is very limited. Most folks leave their cars along the street facing westward. As this is a residential neighborhood, don't leave any valuables in the car. Thieves are prevalent in the city, and they've got no qualms about smashing your windows.
